I had an uneventful pregnancy, no indication that I suffered from any cardiac issues. This was my second child, the older son was born 16 years earlier. I was 32 years old.My son was born 3 weeks early of his expected delivery date via vaginal delivery , nonetheless he was healthy and we both went home 2 days later. Day 3, at home I was feeling very ill as if I had the flu. I was experiencing some lower abdominal pain, so I decided to go to my OB/GYN for further evaluation. I was prescribed an antibiotic and was sent home. I continued with flu like symptoms, and could not even care for my baby.On day 7 after delivery date my life changed forever. I was walking down my hallway towards my bedroom to lie down and felt a sensation that felt like butterflies flying in my chest as my heart was beating so out of sync. I cried out for help because I knew something was not right. I woke up 4 Days later in ICU. I later learned that I suffered from cardiac arrest, CPR was performed on me and I was shocked twice. I was informed that my EF was about 10% and I was not expected to live. After 3 more days in the hospital I recovered and was sent home. I was told it was a miracle that I made it out of that situation alive. I now have a ICD and my last EF was 50%. PPCM is no joke and more women should be made aware of this condition.
